Presentation of Antibes-Juan-les-Pins

Antibes-Juan-les-Pins (60,000 inhabitants) is a municipality located on the Mediterranean sea.

Antibes was founded as Antipolis by the Greeks colons from Massalia (now Marseilles) and became later a fortified border city. It was bought for France to the Grimaldi family (still reigning over Monaco) by Henri IV.

Antibes has attracted several artists such as the painters Pablo Picasso, who stayed in the Grimaldi fortress (now Picasso Museum) in 1946-1949, and Nicolas de Staël, who committed suicide from the fortifications in 1955, the poet and novelist Jacques Audiberti, the Greek writer Nikos Kazantzaki...

Juan-les-Pins was created as a sea resort by the American billionaire Florence Jay Gould, who also founded there the oldest jazz festival in Europe (still active every year in July).

Municipal flag of Antibes-Juan-les-Pins

In Seborga, I saw in Palazzo del Govierno a Breton Gwenn-Ha-Du and a flag they told me to be the flag of Antibes, given to Seborga by the Mayor of Antibes. I suppose there must be some other flags of Antibes in Antibes, but only hidden inside the city hall.
The flag is vertically divided white-blueg with the arms of the city of Antibes-Juan les-Pins (which can be seen on the municipal vehicles).

Club Nautique d'Antibes-Juan-les-Pins

[CN Antibes]by Ivan Sache

Club Nautique d'Antibes-Juan-les-Pins was founded on 1 July 1927.

The CNA quays and clubhouse are located in the Port Vauban, built in 1970 and named after Marshal Vauban. Vauban (1633-1707) was appointed General Commissioner for the Fortifications by Louis XIV in 1678. He built several fortifications on the French land borders and on the coasts, and modernized several ancient fortification systems. In Antibes, then a border city of strategic importance, Vauban increased the Fort-Carré (Square Fort) and added ramparts to protect the old city from attack via the sea. The Fort-Carré has a four-pointed star shape.

The burgee of CNA is a triangular blue flag with a white cross fimbriated red. A white star fimbriated red is placed in the canton.

The by-laws of CNA, adopted on 15 March 2001, include an article related to the burgee:

Article 5.15.

All CNA members' boats moored at the club quays must show the emblem of the CNA (burgee or sticker) in a visible manner.
